Gail Powell has cherished art and artists ever since her first grade art teacher sparked her fascination with images from the National Gallery of Art. In an interview with Artsville, her eyes lit up remembering the excitement of passing around the postcard sized images of favorite artists that went on to inspire her future creations.
Graduating with a degree in Art Education from Edinboro University in Pennsylvania, she has since embarked on a journey teaching in public schools, offering private art lessons, and participating in various art shows and festivals nationwide. While providing inspiration and skills to future artists, Gail has continued to learn and grow her own perspectives on what art means, and the lack of “rules” that one has to follow when expressing the beauty around them.
Finding solace in painting alone, Gail sees each artwork as a personal challenge to express the beauty she perceives in the world. Her paintings, inspired by nature, aim to convey the emotional resonance she experienced when first captivated by the subject. Through her use of color, light, and form, she seeks to evoke a sense of place and spirituality, exploring the harmonious connection between internal life and the external world.
Having lived in diverse locales such as Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Delaware, Washington, Hawaii, and New Mexico, Gail has immersed herself in local art communities, each influencing her creativity in distinct ways. From the dynamic skies and mountains of Santa Fe, New Mexico, to the lush green landscapes of North Carolina, each environment has left its mark on her art, capturing the essence of its unique spirit.
Gail Powell's artistic journey is a testament to her unwavering dedication to portraying the beauty of the natural world through her unique perspective. You can find Gail’s work online at her virtual gallery, at her website, or follow her on Instagram.
