Book an Art Tour in Asheville This Summer

Blog 2 min read

For regional readers who have guests who visit year after year, here’s something new to entertain and delight. Propose an Arts Connection Studio Tour to meet some of our area’s leading artists and makers. These well-known and successful creatives will present their personal stories about their art in their working studios, divulge how they make it, talk about their careers and their futures.

Art Connections has partnered with ArtsvilleUSA to find the finest talents in working studios in and around Asheville taking you to Weaverville, Bakersville, Penland, Hendersonville, and to  any nearby counties where fine artists do their work. Enjoy a whole or half-day visit directly to Asheville artists not located downtown or in the RAD.

Sherry Masters, arts insider and tour host, has provided this custom service for over ten years to folks with special interests in glass, wood, paint, textile, and other favored mediums. But if you are new to the area arts scene, she can help design a simpler experience, a relaxing adventure into the alluring world of art and craft. Perhaps you are new to this field but want  to learn about art. You like to look but want to know more about the buying process. How do you identify what you want in a price within your means? Are you a “collector” if you like to shop festivals and not galleries?  Here’s your chance to ask your questions to an arts professional with over twenty years of experience.

Carl Powell speaks of his glass forms and techniques

Here are some images from Artsville’s most recent Studio Tour to visit Tami Beldue, contemporary artist and head of the Art Department at UNC-Asheville. At a time when that which is loudest and brashest gets the most attention, “Tamie Beldue’s drawings are a balm to the heart and mind.” Here Elana Hagler for Art Perceptions reflects the feeling evoked when viewing Tamie’s work.

Then, our group went on to Grovewood Village to talk with Carl Powell, a renowned contemporary glass designer whose art reflects his admiration for Kandinsky. Carl’s works may be commissioned for special projects including bold architectural settings and smaller studio pieces are available at galleries worldwide. In 2019,  Stained Glass magazine featured Carl as the 2018 Public Arts Endowment Award recipient for the creation of seven windows for the Van Dyke Performing Arts Center in Greensboro, NC.
